1. Least Restrictive Environment Targeted Skills Group (LRE - TSG) 2024-2025 *For designated districts only*

The Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Targeted Skills Group (TSG), is designed to deepen the understanding and implementation of the principle of LRE. The team will leave this training with a better understanding of the issues around the LRE. Each module in the series will build toward an action plan to support the district in increasing the amount of time students with disabilities spend in general education environments.

Through this TSG, attendees will:
● Understand the foundations of regulations for LRE decisions and implementation.
● Learn the data used to measure compliance with federal and state benchmarks for LRE compliance.
● Be introduced to the four components to consider when creating an effective system for ensuring student placement in LRE.

Activities are included to help the team begin the root cause analysis process.

LRE targeted skills group training is made up of several professional development modules. Each training focuses on a specific component related to the least restrictive environment. The suite of trainings includes:

2. Virtual Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)/Committee on Special Education (CSE) Chairperson Training - April 2025

This virtual training series of workshops will consist of four (4) live Zoom sessions. Modules 1 and 6 will be asynchronous work that you will complete independently. Other modules will include pre-work activities. Pre-work activities must be completed before the corresponding module. The Module 1 asynchronous work must be completed before Session 1. The Module 6 asynchronous work must be completed before Session 4.

5. Overview of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) (Synchronous)-Two Zoom Sessions of 3 hours each

The Overview of Specially Designed Instruction professional development training package is the first in a suite of trainings on the development and use of specially designed instruction (SDI) for students with disabilities. This introductory training is intended to develop participants' working knowledge of the components of SDI, the rationale for using SDI, using SDI alongside other instructional strategies, and selecting appropriate SDI based upon student needs and characteristics. This is a two-part online course offered synchronously. Each session will be 3 hours from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The dates are May 1, 2025 and June 5, 2025.
A Zoom Meeting link will be emailed to registrants prior to each session.
Participants will:


• Develop introductory knowledge of specially designed instruction (SDI)


• Identify ethical & legal reasons for the use of SDI


• Be able to define SDI & its purpose


• Understand the relationships between SDI & other instructional strategies

6. MTSS-i: Effective Tier 1 and Tier 2 Instructional, Social Emotional, and Behavioral Supports for All Grade Levels

Fully implemented MTSS programs can have a significant impact on academic and behavioral outcomes. According to research, elementary, middle, and high schools participating in MTSS Tier 1 interventions saw a 33 percent reduction in office discipline referrals and an increase in the average percentage of students scoring Level 3 or higher in reading. Join us for a workshop on effective Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions that have been tested and proven to work with students from all different backgrounds. After taking this workshop, teachers will be able to add to their repertoire of strategies and techniques for increased student engagement through scientifically-based instructional, behavioral, and social emotional interventions.

The purpose of this training is to help participants gain a greater understanding of the Science of Reading; specifically, what phonological awareness is and how crucial this skillset is to the foundation of reading success. Participants will explore what skills to teach when, and how to teach these skills for students to master phonological awareness. The training will also provide context for the importance of using assessments to improve the effectiveness of phonological instruction for students. To overcome equity barriers, educators need to focus on systemic, explicit instruction to teach the skills supported by the science of reading.

10. Mathematical Games: Creating a Playful Classroom

The world of mathematics should be fun and playful! Come try out different mathematical games and consider how they could be incorporated into your classroom. We will look at games whose purpose is play and exploration, as well as games that can be used for practice and review.
Research shows that over 50 percent of Americans get their information from social media. It is important that students graduate high school with the ability to decode media messages, understand the system in which they exist, and their influence on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This session will equip teachers with the necessary skills to teach students how to develop a critical lens for detecting bias, propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation in literature. Teachers will empower their students with the ability to ascertain whether information encountered in the media is credible and trustworthy. Join us as we discuss the concepts of "lateral reading” and lifelong research skills. After taking this workshop, teachers can teach students how to create their own media using information that is accurate and objective.

13. NY Inspires: A Plan to Transform Education in New York State

15. Trauma-Informed Practices: Prioritizing Staff and System Wellness

This workshop is designed to assist participants in exploring how supporting adults in the current educational climate is a critical element of becoming a trauma-informed school. Participants will examine the impact that toxic stress and/or secondary traumatic stress have on school employees, and how this affects their motivation, sense of accomplishment, and effectiveness in their personal and professional lives. While some of the common barriers to self- and community care (co-care) are addressed, highlighted are the positive impacts made when schools and districts prioritize staff wellness and resilience.

16. Developing an Effective Student Exit Summary

The goals of this training are:
*To analyze the importance of students' self-determination skills in making the Student Exit Summary (SES) a meaningful and relevant document
*Learn the federal and state requirements for the SES
*Recognize and identify the required components of the SES
*Identify a process for the development and issuance of the SES that is student-centered

The Student Exit Summary is a required form for students exiting school. We ask that participants bring a student's IEP who is exiting this June and/or your school's Student Exit Summary form to reference and work with during this training. Please note: Student IEPs or Student Exit Summary forms are not required to attend this workshop. A Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants a few days in advance of this workshop. 18. Project Slice: Ecology is Everywhere: Studying Urban Ecosystems

Program: Center for Sustainability and Climate Education

Join educators from Cary Institute of Ecosystem Science and Dutchess County BOCES for a one-day workshop to explore the ecology of urban places. We'll get outdoors to examine the ecology all around us, even in cities! Participants will explore protocols that will equip them to support students in designing and carrying out their own investigation to answer questions about how climate change impacts residents (human and non-human) of urban landscapes and to explore the biodiversity of urban spaces. We'll experience elements of project based learning that teachers can bring back to the classroom to get students thinking about local issues in engaging ways. We will discuss ideas for modifying workshop materials for all grade levels and science disciplines and invite all interested K-12 science educators to join! This workshop is free for members of the Center for Sustainability and Climate Education.

19. NYSED Statewide *Numeracy Briefs* Meeting

We invite you to join us on May 13, 2025, for a day of learning and professional discussion on mathematics! The New York State Education Department will release a new series of numeracy briefs, developed by Dr. Deborah Loewenberg Ball, that focus on evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics. The agenda includes an overview of each of the eight numeracy briefs, with time to reflect and discuss with colleagues.

This event, which will be a hybrid webinar with in-person discussion and presentations, will provide New York State administrators and numeracy leaders with specific and useful information to support high-quality teaching of mathematics across grades PreK-12.

Please note that to attend this event, you must attend in person at a BOCES, Big 5, or Small City School District designated site.

Participants in the event will have the opportunity to learn about the briefs with Dr. Deborah Loewenberg Ball and the SED team. Dr. Loewenberg Ball is the William H. Payne Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan and the director of TeachingWorks.

NYSED and Dr. Ball will release a new series of numeracy briefs that are grounded in research, are written for practitioners, and will provide scientific and useful information to support responsible teaching of mathematics across grades PreK-12.

35. Handwriting Instruction: Improve the Reading Performance of Elementary Students

These components include; transition assessments, present levels of performance, transition needs, course of study and coordinated set of activities.

The goals of this training are to:
*Identify key components of high-quality transition IEPs and understand the transition planning process
*Identify the components needed to develop and write measurable postsecondary goals
*Understand the relationship between transition needs and the development of annual goals to support the student toward achieving the postsecondary goals

The Specially Designed Instruction for Administrators professional development training package is the fifth in a suite of trainings on the development and use of specially designed instruction (SDI) for students with disabilities. This training is intended to further develop an administrator's knowledge of SDI and how SDI should be designed and developed based on individual student need to address their learning obstacles. The content is most beneficial for building administrators and new special education administrators; however, all administrators are welcome.
This is a one session online course offered synchronously. The session will be 3 hours from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The date is: July 23, 2025.

Participants will:
