7. Co-teaching: A Comprehensive Approach - hybrid training series

Program: Regional Partnership Center

Audience: Co-teaching teams consisting of general and special education teachers as well as other teachers and related services providers that will be working together. General and special education administrators are also encouraged to attend.

The purpose of this training is to help participants gain a foundational understanding of co-teaching as a service delivery model, develop a highly effective co-teaching team, and develop ways to plan. In New York State, the co-teaching model is most often associated with the special education service integrated co-teaching.

The training consists of three modules:

11. Year 1: Developing High Functioning MTSS Teams

Dutchess BOCES is providing year long support to build New MTSS teams or expand existing ones for District or Building Teams. MTSS is a systemic, evidence-based, continuous improvement framework that utilizes a comprehensive continuum of evidence-based practices to support needs: academic behavioral, social- emotional, student physical and mental health. Data-based instructional decision-making is informed through regular observation such that all learners are supported and have equitable access to a rigorous, high quality education from P-12.

Teams will build a common knowledge and vocabulary around MTSS-i and its tiers, and have time to discuss and design an initial MTSS-i plan outlining the building/district expectations for implementation of each level.

13. Integrated ENL Co-Teaching - 3-Part Series

Program: Educational Resources

Audience: ENL and content area co-teaching partnerships, dually certified ENL and content area teachers

Dates: 10/9/2025 to 12/11/2025

This series will help co-teaching pairs to understand, plan for, and successfully implement Integrated ENL Co-Teaching in their content area classes. This series will discuss the NYS Co-Teaching Topic Briefs and reference the book Co-Teaching for English Learners: A Guide to Collaborative Planning, Instruction, Assessment, and Reflection by Maria Dove and Andrea Honigsfeld.

Session 1 will focus on building co-teaching relationships, culturally responsive sustaining education, and instructional strategies.
Session 2 will focus on co-planning practices and routines, assessment and writing language and content objectives.
Session 3 will focus on co-teaching models.

Opportunities for implementation of the practices and strategies will be embedded throughout the series. Classroom and state testing accommodations for ELLs will also be covered.

We strongly recommend that ENL teachers attend this series with one co-teacher to allow pairs to strengthen their relationship and dedicate time within each session to planning upcoming units and lessons that they will co-teach together. Dually certified ENL and content area teachers are also encouraged to register.

All participants must bring a device in order to access materials and participate in activities.

16. SLS: A Dynamic Duo: ENL Teachers & School Librarians

Program: School Library System

Dates: 10/29/2025 to 5/27/2026

This professional learning workshop series is a collaboration between Ulster BOCES, Sullivan BOCES, and Dutchess BOCES School Library Systems, and the Hudson Valley Regional Bilingual Education Network (HV RBERN). It is designed to promote teamwork between ENL Teachers and School Librarians from the same school or district. School Librarians and ENL Teachers should register to attend together as a team for all sessions.

Participants will collaborate to develop an event or initiative for ELLs that includes literacy components and recognition of student achievements. Participants will be provided with strategies and support to develop a strong foundation for a successful partnership.

Session 1

Newcomers to the series: (October 29th, Full Day, 9am-2pm, In Person)

The morning session will include introductory presentations and activities designed to give participants a better understanding of each other's roles, as well as strategies to develop a successful partnership. The afternoon session will include highlights of recent Dynamic Duo events, a discussion of funding and family engagement resources, and prep time to begin collaborative work.

Returning partnerships: (October 29th, Half-Day, 12pm-2pm, In Person)

An afternoon working session will include highlights of past participants' work, discussion of funding and family engagement resources, and prep time to begin collaborative work.

17. Science of Reading Fundamentals Microcredential through SUNY New Paltz

Program: Educational Resources

Audience: P-12 Literacy educators and administrators

The Science of Reading Fundamentals microcredential (SoRF MC) is a fully asynchronous online, non-credit microcredential delivered in the learn.newpaltz platform.
It is designed for practicing P-12 teachers and others interested in learning about the research-based building blocks of reading instruction. The SoRF MC covers the five pillars of the Science of Reading -- phonemic awareness, phonics (including alphabetic principle and orthography), fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The microcredential can be completed in as little as seven weeks or as long as six months. NYS teachers can receive 35 CTLE hours upon completion.

Participants will have up to 6 months from the start date to complete all work.

18. C.A.I.T Meeting

The Curriculum, Assessment, and Instructional Technology (C.A.I.T.) Council meets monthly to discuss district technology planning and implementation in order to support curriculum and instructional practices to improve student learning. C.A.I.T members, including Directors of Technology, Technology Integration Specialists, and/or participants designated to attend by district leadership, discuss staff development initiatives including best practices and uses of instructional technology. The council will explore successful initiatives from a variety of sources in order to work together to best assess the effectiveness of technology on teaching and learning within our county, districts and schools.

19. Literacy Across the Curriculum: Science, History, Math, and ELA

This series will focus on cross curricular connections through reading and writing in the classroom setting. Participants will create hands-on activities for children to analyze science literature, evaluate data, and create claim-evidence arguments, and foundations for reasonings. This session will focus on the depth of knowledge through higher order thinking and higher level questioning to expand students vocabulary, writing, and research skills for all grade levels. Teachers will focus on high impact instructional strategies by considering the convergence of fiction with nonfiction in order to draw comparisons, engage in deeper learning, and explore research interests of students. Teachers will align NYS Anchor Standard Reading 9, Writing 2 & 3 with Essential Questions. By using whole-group read alouds, essential questioning, comparing and contrasting, and peer assisted learning strategies (PALS).

Session 1 - Teachers will develop cross curricular, fiction/nonfiction units for Science (Animals, Plants, Astronomy, Cooking) History (biographies, transportation, inventions), Math (fractions, geometry), and Language (homonyms, synonyms, morphology, poetry, alliteration) S

Session 2 - Having read widely and deeply in science, history, math and ELA teachers will develop a personal inquiry-based path of learning for developing additional questions and resources for students to collect additional information on a chosen topic.

Session 3 - As teachers guide students toward developing their own content, they will guide students toward writing informational text using facts, evidence, and data to support their claims.

21. reLET: Recertification of Lead Evaluators of Teachers

This half-day workshop for lead evaluators of teachers is designed to promote quality and consistency in teacher evaluation in accordance with Education Law 3012-d. 23. ENL Teachers: Integrated Materials Development Roundtable

Creating Welcoming and Affirming Learning Environments is one of four high leverage principles identified in the Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CRSE) Framework. When students feel like they belong at school, they have fewer absences, fewer disciplinary infractions, higher graduation rates, as well as increased engagement, self-esteem, and attitudes. Students with disabilities and students of different cultural backgrounds are less likely to feel like they have a positive relationship with their teacher and that their identities and abilities are valued and affirmed in school. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) presented its robust timeline and implementation plan aimed at transforming education in New York, aligning with the recommendations from the Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures. This initiative, designed to promote greater equity within the education system, is informed by extensive stakeholder engagement, including parents, educators, administrators, school support staff, representatives of higher education, and the business community.

27. Developing Behavior Systems that Work: Creating a Behavior Flow Chart (Virtual)

28. Transition in the IEP - Overview of Core Components

During this training, participants will gain valuable information, strategies, and materials to assist with writing quality transition-focused IEPs. In addition, participants will receive helpful resources to prepare them for the State Performance Plan Indicator 13 review. Participants will have the opportunity to review their district's practices for writing the transition components in the IEP. These components include; transition assessments, present levels of performance, transition needs, course of study and coordinated set of activities.

The goals of this training are to:
*Identify key components of high-quality transition IEPs and understand the transition planning process
*Identify the components needed to develop and write measurable postsecondary goals
*Understand the relationship between transition needs and the development of annual goals to support the student toward achieving the postsecondary goals
*Identify key concepts of coordinated set of activities
*Ensure student participation in the development of a transition IEP and parent involvement in the transition planning process
*Directly apply and implement concepts into practice

Participants are asked to bring an IEP (of a student age 15+) to the training to reflect on their district's transition practices throughout the presentation.

29. Trauma-Informed Practices: Staff and System Wellness

This workshop is designed to assist participants in exploring how supporting adults in the current educational climate is a critical element of becoming a trauma-informed school. Participants will examine the impact that toxic stress and/or secondary traumatic stress have on school employees, and how this affects their motivation, sense of accomplishment, and effectiveness in their personal and professional lives. While some of the common barriers to self- and community care (co-care) are addressed, highlighted are the positive impacts made when schools and districts prioritize staff wellness and resilience.

The New York State Education Department will release a new toolkit, developed in collaboration with Dr. Socorro Herrera, Dr. Kathy Escamilla, and Dr. Robin Cabral. When an English Language Learner (ELL) struggles academically, educators must identify the factors affecting their learning. Behaviors that may resemble signs of a disability need careful examination to rule out factors unrelated to the student's inherent abilities. When students are given academic research assignments, it may be a challenge to identify source material that is credible, factual, and peer-reviewed. In today's polarized political landscape, public opinion has shifted considerably thereby creating a more pronounced challenge for even the most savvy students to ascertain the difference between fact, embedded opinion, yellow journalism, fake news, misinformation, and disinformation in nonfiction, informational texts. In this session both you and your students will learn various strategies and criteria for identifying and evaluating online information that is intentionally designed to misguide and/or misinform researchers.

In this hands-on workshop, educators will explore how to design rich, inquiry-based questions aligned to the NYS Social Studies Framework and C3 Inquiry Arc. Participants will unpack the difference between compelling and supporting questions, examine high-quality examples, and collaboratively develop their own inquiry tasks and source sets. Walk away with classroom-ready questions and feedback tools to elevate engagement and deepen historical thinking. This four-day series will equip ENL teachers working with grades 6-12 to develop integrated materials, scaffolds and assessments that effectively support students' reading, writing, listening and speaking skills across content areas, as well as develop language objectives. The series will emphasize collaboration, best practices, and the alignment of ENL instruction in an Integrated classroom. Participants should be prepared to bring instructional materials and assessments to modify for English language learners.

100. Unpacking the Numeracy Briefs: The Role of Leadership (Brief 8)

On May 13, 2025, the New York State Education Department released a new series of numeracy briefs, developed by Dr. Deborah Loewenberg Ball, that focus on evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics. This 3 hour workshop is geared toward administrators and instructional leaders. Participants will unpack Brief 8: The Role of Leadership, review the other seven briefs, and discuss how to apply Dr. Loewenberg Ball's research to the supervision of mathematics instruction.

This roundtable for School Counselors will foster a space that offers community, shared resources, and feedback for school counselors in this and surrounding areas. During bimonthly sessions, school counselors can expect to use protocols to share and hear best practices, discuss common obstacles and solutions, and discuss/ receive feedback on issues.
