2. Books Alive! (Online)

This online course is especially designed for teachers instructing students in grades pre-school through grade 12. The focus of the class will be to create a setting that motivates both the teacher and the students to become "marinated" in good books. Each participant will develop an alphabet book designed around a topic that they want to explore in more depth with the students (i.e. PSSA Terms from A-Z) or a Readers Theatre script. Graphic organizers will be presented for extending reading and writing activities along songs and book teasers. Some projects will be created. In addition, participants will explore literacy websites and research articles.

Participants will share ways they bring books to life in their classroom. Books published after 2005 will be shared by participants telling how they would be used in the curriculum. Online

3. Positive Discipline for Preschool/Kindergarten Teachers and Childcare Providers (online)

A Back to School Special

The focus of this course for preschool, kindergarten, and childcare providers will be the creation of a positive learning environment that balances kindness (to show respect for the student) with firmness (to show respect for the teacher). Teachers will study (and have as a later resource) Dr. Jane Nelsen's book: Positive Discipline for Childcare Providers. Participants will be taken by video into classrooms where Positive Discipline is utilized and will have an opportunity to conduct a class or family meeting to assess the methods. Includes material fee for $35.00 which includes the textbook and other materials which will be mailed out a few days before class.

This course focuses on the creation of a positive learning environment that balances kindness with firmness. Positive discipline is based on the research of Adler, Dreikurs and Nelsen. The system allows the teacher to be kind and encouraging to students while teaching them what they need to know in order to lead happy, productive lives. Tuition includes $35 fee for text and materials which will be mailed out a few days before the class.

6. A+ Ideas For Every Student's Success

This 3-credit online course is designed to improve academic performance, increase productivity, and encourage self-esteem in students through appropriate use of classroom management techniques and motivational strategies in the class. The participant will become acquainted with the various personality profiles, including their own, and strategies to encourage an atmosphere conducive to the students' ultimate learning ability. Participants will develop an awareness of how their profile interacts with student profiles and with this knowledge adapt lessons accordingly. The strategies will be presented to promote positive teacher/student interaction, gain insight on predicting a students' behavior, and knowing how to uniquely respond to the students differentiated styles.

7. Increasing Student Achievement Through Instructional Games and Manipulatives (Totally Online )

This course will be devoted to addressing the PA Academic Standards and assisting K-12 teachers in motivating and stimulating learning along with aiding in the retention of basic skills. Research, methods, techniques, demonstration, simulation, modeling, creating lessons, and the development of projects in a laboratory-type setting will be employed to assist teachers in both understanding ways to utilize instructional games along with creating artifacts that can be used in small or large group situations. Participants will develop and share several lessons with specific techniques presented in class incorporated. A $35 materials' fee is include in the registration fee. IU or College credits. Class is totally online with students completing the work on their schedule.

The content will focus on proven professional management skills and teaching strategies which substitutes need for success. Participants will explore current topics such as: instructional strategies, behavior management, effective communication, understanding student differences, current brain research, and confidentiality. This is designed to be a dynamic, interactive workshop where the participants will be able to adapt the content to their styles and needs. Note: The last class will be two months after the third class.
