Dates: 4/8/2021

Meeting Times: Thursday, April 8, 2021, 8:30am to 3:00pm

Virtual Workshop
Facilitated by Terri A. Erbacher, Ph.D.

Pennsylvania Act 18 requires all school entities to have threat assessment teams by the Fall of 2021. Threat assessment requires both the assessment of - and intervention with - students who may present as a threat to others. Thus, threat assessment must be an integral part of a system that fosters a safe, supportive, and effective school environment, characterized by trust between students and adults, respect for others, parent involvement, and collaboration between school and community. Pennsylvania requires that threat assessment procedures be in place that are fair and ensure equitable practices.

This full-day virtual training will provide school-based teams a valuable opportunity to:
- learn how to identify students at risk for a variety of mental health problems
- assess various level of threats
- plan for safety when needed and return students to appropriate learning environments.

Participation in this program will help participants:
1. Understand the rationale for school-based threat assessment
2. Develop procedures for their own districts and schools to assess threats of violence according to Pennsylvania Act 18 requirements
3. Implement research-based practices related to assessment and intervention of youth at risk for violence
4. Consider practical issues in the development of school threat assessment teams

LEAs are invited to register a team of three per school. Each team shall include individuals with expertise in - School health
- Counseling, school psychology, or social work
- Special education
- School administration
- The school safety and security coordinator appointed under section 1309-B
