2. Conditional Formatting and Data Validation

This session will look deeper into practical applications of conditional formatting for attractively presenting data, analysis, and tracking. We will review the basics then explore conditional formatting based upon criteria. Data validation is what Excel will allow to be entered in a cell, the default is anything, but you can customize this using both simple and complex criteria. This feature is especially helpful if you are pushing out a spreadsheet to inexperienced staff, and as way to prevent errors. You will learn how to create instructions, and customized warning and error messages.

Also, how to use information from a sorted and filtered table to create specialized reports. Using the subtotal row function, table esthetics and use of slicers also will be covered

4. Intro to pivot tables and "Vlookup” tables

Pivot tables are a unique set of tables that enable you to easily do complex analysis of "transactional type” data. Pivot tables seem complex but are easy if your data set meets the right criteria. We will create simple pivot tables and pivot charts. We also will cover a few advanced features as presenting results in percentage of columns or rows, and filtering using a slicer, and creating filter tabs. Whether you have never pivoted before or have dabbled, this session will add many useful and easy tools to your toolbox. We also will explore look up functions in Excel and how using "vlookup” you populate a spreadsheet from a large dataset coming from applications like work order systems, student management systems, and financial systems.
