This ACT 45 course is for School Leaders interested in working toward the Certificate in School Management & Leadership (CSML) from Harvard University. Participants will enroll in Leading Change; one of the four asynchronous school leadership courses designed by Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) & Harvard Business School and hosted on Harvard's portal. The course is asynchronous, but time bound over 4 weeks in the summer. Following the completion of the course, there will be two in-person afternoon sessions at the CCIU for reflection and action planning based on course learning and experiences. Upon completion of the course and meeting attendance, participants will receive 50 ACT 45 Hours.

Part 1: Leading Change Course (Asynchronous):
*Begins: Wednesday June 17
*Ends: Wednesday July 15, 2026
*Approximately 5 hours per week - overall approx 20 hour commitment.

This course provides participants with an overview of the Wilson Reading System (WRS) and serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification Training. This course examines the intensive intervention reading instruction necessary for students in grade two and above with persistent and significant phonological-coding deficits. Participants learn about dyslexia (indicators, misconceptions, neurobiological aspects, and prevalence), typical versus atypical reading acquisition, appropriate student identification and placement, and key components and principles of instruction, including the factors necessary for high-quality program implementation. How to teach phonology (including phonemic awareness), morphology, and orthography in an integrated, explicit, systematic, and multisensory way is demonstrated and practiced during the course. Participants explore the standard ten-part WRS Lesson Plan and practice planning, delivering, and individualizing a WRS Lesson while receiving modeling and feedback from a Wilson Credentialed Trainer.

Prerequisites: Participants must have a bachelor's degree in education or a related field and have completed the WRS introductory course within the last five years participants will need to administer the wist test kit for pre/post testing practicum student requirements and an additional standardized normed reading test with sub tests that compare word attack to comprehension skills it is highly recommended that you have a practicum student in mind who appears to fit the selection criteria.
