Philip Tangorra, Executive Director of the Mohawk Valley Water Authority, and his team have put together a program that includes a tour of the Water Treatment Plant at Hinckley Reservoir, followed by a laboratory demonstration and water quality discussion, which will be held back at the Kennedy Plaza location. We'll follow with a Lunch and Learn in their conference room, where the Engineering team will discuss design and capital program management. Mr. Tangorra will lead further discussions on Water Sector workforce issues and the OneWaterWorkforce initiative. Closing out the day with a Q&A session. The overarching theme is "Real World STEM: Bringing Industry into the Classroom.” The MVWA Team will help connect work readiness to specific STEM content, with the goal of educators leaving with strategies they can implement in their classrooms. Be it Engineering, Science, Technology, or Math, all content-area teachers play a vital role in preparing graduates for rewarding STEM careers.

Upon completion, Herkimer BOCES will report your completion electronically. The class has two portions. The first portion is a 3-hour online piece completed via Google Classroom. Instructions for accessing the classroom will be emailed to you. THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM PORTION OF THIS COURSE MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE DUE DATE BEFORE THE SECOND IN-PERSON SESSION!!!! Upon completion, Herkimer BOCES will report your completion electronically. The class has two portions. The first portion is a 3-hour online piece completed via Google Classroom. Instructions for accessing the classroom will be emailed to you. THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM PORTION OF THIS COURSE MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE DUE DATE BEFORE THE SECOND IN-PERSON SESSION!!!! If the online component is not completed prior to the in-person session, you will not receive credit for the course. This Training aims to equip educators with the skills and knowledge to identify, prevent, and respond to violence in school settings. Lasting approximately two hours, the course covers essential topics such as recognizing warning signs, implementing de-escalation techniques, and understanding relevant legislation, including the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) Act. In New York State, training in School Violence Prevention and Intervention is mandatory, along with a 6-hour DASA Certification and Mandated Reporter training for anyone pursuing a new certification, including educators applying for their professional certification. Cost is free for any Herkimer BOCES staff members and safety service-subscribing districts.
