The Elementary Advanced Course is designed to increase your knowledge and expand your teaching strategies and practices to strengthen the Responsive Classroom approach you're already using. In this four-day, interactive training course, you will learn new methods and strategies. (Prerequisite: Elementary Core Course)

3. Next Generation Middle School Science Classroom

Program: Professional Development Unit

Audience: Middle School Science Teachers

Learn about our new resource, Digital Tehatre + for MS and HS. This resource was over 500 productions )such as the Crucible, Hamlet, Into the Woods, Antigone), over 450 interviews and documentaries, and over 14,500 written resources. Genres include Comedy, Drama, History, Musical Theatre, Romance, Satire, Tragedy, and Tragicomedy.

7. Micro Credentials and Digital Badging Courses-Personalized Professional Learning-You choose!

Program: Online Workshops: Teacher Center

Audience: All educators and teaching assistants.

8. New York State Teacher Center's Equity Challenge

Program: Online Workshops: Teacher Center

Audience: All Educators and Teaching Assistants

Dates: 9/26/2022 to 12/5/2022

The NYSTC Equity Challenge is designed to provide participants with an opportunity to explore resources at their own pace, focusing on how education is impacted when inequitable systems exist. You will explore 10 topics in total. A new topic will be shared every week for 10 weeks via email. You will then complete the corresponding badge for each week. Topics include Equity, Personal Identity, Race and Equity, Bias, Privilege, Levels of Racism, Being an Ally, and more. All weeks will provide an introduction to the topic. You will read the introduction and explore any links embedded in it. All weeks will include infographics to reflect on and a corresponding badge to complete for CTLE credits. Most weeks will include a "Know the Impact on Education", "Stretching Our Thinking" and a "Reflect and Act" section. The final challenge is structured to provide you with opportunities to reflect on the entire challenge and offer you resources to explore. Upon completion of all requirements, participants will receive 10 CTLE hours. Partial credit will not be given. This course is completely online and done independently.

9. TCIS: Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (Level One)

Program: Professional Development Unit

Dates: 9/28/2022 to 9/30/2022

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention in Schools (TCIS) is a student crisis management system designed to prevent crises from occurring as well as training staff to de-escalate potential crises, effectively manage acute crises, learn constructive ways to handle stressful situations, and develop a learning circle within the organization. Participants will be trained over the course of three days in active listening, behavior support techniques, emotional first aid, crisis co-regulation, the life space interview, and the stress model of crisis. This training is available for teachers, assistants, paraprofessionals, support staff, administrators, and additional school personnel.

Registrants outside of the Cayuga-Onondaga districts will be charged a $150 fee for this workshop.

10. Council/Communication Coordinators SLS Meeting

Program: School Library System

Audience: School librarians

Dates: 10/4/2022

The Council advises the School Library System and helps create the Plan of Service, approves the SLS budget, and approves the Annual Report. All members of SLS are encouraged to attend, but only members of the Council can vote. The Communication Coordinators meetings are a bridge between the SLS and school librarians in-district. Each district has at least one designated Communication Coordinator that is required to attend, but all librarians are encouraged to attend.

DASA: New York State's Dignity for All Student's Act (Dignity Act) seeks to provide NYS public elementary and secondary school students with a safe, supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function. The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is a NYSED approved provider of the Dignity Act certification training.

  • The required 6-hour training consists of two parts:
  • Part 1 is a 3-hour online training with accompanying assignments. (Opens September 1 2022 and must be completed before September 30, 2022.)
  • Part 2 is a 3-hour in-person training. (Part 2 will take place on October 5, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.)

The Part 1 online training must be completed prior to admission to the Part 2 in-person training.

12. Building your Educational Equity Pathway: Microaggressions and Bias 10/6 and 10/13 4-5:30

Building a pathway toward educational equity in schools requires a commitment from educators to be aware and understand existing inequities and how those inequities rob students of dignity. One step toward teaching against indignities is to focus on understanding microaggressions. The 3-hour microaggressions and bias workshop aims to raise awareness of microaggressions in K-12 education context. Through live presentation in the first part of the workshop, participants will receive content knowledge on microaggressions across identity groups. Participants will gain information to further their understanding on when microaggressions happen, what microaggressions are rooted in (hint: it's bias!), and pedagogical strategies to disrupt and prevent microaggressions in school. In the second part of the live workshop, participants will practice disrupting a series of school-based microaggression scenarios and work to reflect, develop and be prepared to implement strategies to prevent microaggressions from happening in their own educational space. Anticipated participant outcomes: Participants will leave the workshop able to: 1. Define, identify and discuss microaggressions 2. Recognize and explain the relationship between microaggressions and bias 3. Identify and apply pedagogical strategies to disrupt microaggressions in school 4. Develop and implement pedagogical strategies to create spaces

13. Building Thinking Classrooms: An Introduction Oct. 12 4-6 PM

For K-12 math educators, this workshop will explore some of the optimal practices for thinking that Peter Liljedahl outlines in his book, "Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics, Grades K-12." This workshop will introduce ideas to help you move toward a thinking math classroom.

14. Building your Educational Equity Pathway: Anti-Poverty Pedagogy and Curriculum Development, 11/15 and 11/22, 4-5:30

Building a pathway toward educational equity in schools requires a commitment from educators to be aware and understand existing inequities and how those inequities rob students of dignity. One step in teaching against indignities is to focus on understanding anti-poverty and education. Working against poverty begins with understanding poverty. This workshop is designed to raise awareness on poverty inequality and inequity in education and communicate methods for working against it through pedagogy and curriculum. Participants will leave with an increased understanding on the way poverty impacts student experiences in the classroom and at school. Participants will gain pedagogical methods and curricular considerations for creating an anti-poverty classroom space that gives students of all social class identities, with attention to low-income students, a sense of classroom belonging and access to an equitable learning experience. Anticipated participant outcomes: Participants will leave this workshop able to: 1. Identify and discuss poverty and education 2. Identify and discuss anti-poverty principles and practices and education 3. Implement pedagogical strategies for creating inclusive educational spaces for students across social class identity groups
