The New York State Portrait of a Graduate (POG) establishes a new, shared vision for what every student should know and be able to do upon graduation. This systemic shift presents a critical opportunity for school counselors to ensure their programs are intentionally aligned with this new framework. This collaborative session will bring together school counselors from across our county to examine current K-12 comprehensive school counseling plans. Participants will identify existing strengths and assets within their plans and proactively pinpoint opportunities to explicitly integrate the POG attributes into all aspects of their work. Participants should bring or have access to their current counseling plans.

This session will provide participants with an introduction to the TIG approach for increasing trauma-responsive, relationship affirming, and resilience enhancing practices within K-12 settings. TIG represents a thriving and expanding, real world example of a trauma-informed, resilience-building program that supports practices at the individual educator, school-building and district level. This proven approach has increased competence, confidence, and access to resources among educators so they can meet the holistic needs of students (and staff!) arising from experiences of trauma, illness, and grief. Through reflection, exploration, and activity participants will walk away with at least one action they can take today to support students, colleagues and themselves with healing and recovery.

92. OBEWL Statewide Conference: The Science of Reading for Multilingual Learners

The New York State Education Department will release a new toolkit, developed in collaboration with Dr. Socorro Herrera, Dr. Kathy Escamilla, and Dr. Robin Cabral. The agenda includes an overview of the six briefs developed to help educators ensure that the teaching of reading is inclusive of ELLs and MLs. This event will be held as a hybrid webinar with in-person discussion and online presentations. New York State administrators and literacy leaders will be presented specific and useful information to understand and address the ontological differences between ELLs, MLs, and monolingual students. Please note that to participate in this event, you must attend in person. Participants in the event will have the opportunity to learn about the briefs with Dr. Socorro Herrera, a professor at the College of Education and the director of the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy at Kansas State University. Dr. Herrera's K-12 teaching experience includes an emphasis on literacy development, and her research focuses on literacy opportunities with culturally and linguistically diverse students, reading strategies, and teacher preparation for diversity in the classroom.

Dignity for All Students Act (The Dignity Act or DASA) Workshop: Six hour training in Harassment, Bullying, Cyberbullying and Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention. New York State's Dignity Act seeks to provide the State's public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function. School professionals applying for certification or license on or after DECEMBER 31, 2013 are required to complete six clock hours of course work or training in this area. This training is designed to fulfill that requirement.

This is a two-part DASA workshop that must be completed in sequence, part one must be completed in order to attend part two.

Part One is a fully virtual, self-paced module consisting of approximately four hours of content, including videos, articles, reflection activities, and data analysis. Use the link below to get started with part 1.

Part Two is an in-person session designed to deepen participants' understanding through collaborative discussion and application. It also provides an opportunity to clarify and expand upon concepts introduced in Part One.

Tuition is $100.00 for employees of district which subscribe to the Oswego BOCES School Improvement Co-Ser. Tuition is $125.00 for all other attendees.

94. Collective Impact Virtual Book Study

In education, collective efficacy is the belief that we have an impact on student achievement. In the book Collective Impact: overcoming the twelve enemies of teacher efficacy, authors Jenni Donohoo and Glen Forbes state, "When efficacy is lacking, teachers tend to give up more easily and lower expectations". This book provides clarity, strategy, and guidance to combat the enemies of efficacy and build conviction that WE have an impact on teaching and learning. This virtual book study will take place over five one-hour sessions from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The author, Jenni Donohoo, will join our final session to take questions from participants. Audience: Leaders of schools/districts, BOCES, professional development, SEL, HR There is no cost to participate in this book study. Participants are responsible for purchasing their own book.
