The Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages (OBEWL) of the New York State Education Department presents:

Enacting the New York State Culture Standards

NYSED OBEWL is sponsoring a two-day, in-person workshop series in nine regions across New York State to support NYS world language educators in understanding and implementing the NYS Culture Standards.

Each workshop will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch on your own.

Participants must commit to attending both days in full. Eight (8) hours of CTLE credit are offered.

Day 1: Enacting NYS Culture Standards (Part 1)
Focus on the connection between intercultural competence and language proficiency in developing culturally responsive students. Participants will use authentic resources (images, artifacts, texts) to explore interpretation and cultural context. After reviewing Culture Standards 4-5 and rubrics, they will design an interpretive instructional sequence aligned to these standards.

Day 2: Enacting NYS Culture Standards (Part 2)
Builds on Day 1 by focusing on interpersonal and presentational communication. Participants will learn strategies to prompt student output using Culture Standards 4-5 and integrate these tasks into the interpretive sequence. They will then design aligned interpersonal and presentational performance tasks using the same standards and rubrics.

As New York BOCES and district teams move through the NY Inspires process, this session-offered as a DLNY pre-conference-provides structured time to reflect, recalibrate, and plan for the next year of the NY Inspires framework.

Your DLNY registration allows you to participate in this pre-conference at no additional cost. This session is part of Deeper Learning New York (DLNY), a dynamic, practitioner-driven event that brings together educators, leaders, and partners committed to advancing deeper learning, equity, and student-centered practices across New York and beyond.

Using human-centered design practices, participants will revisit how community engagement shaped their year of work and prioritize next steps for embedding the Portrait of a Graduate into instructional practice across districts. Facilitated by New Tech Network (NTN), this interactive workshop draws on NTN's national expertise in supporting districts to cultivate deeper learning environments, engage diverse stakeholders, and sustain system-wide transformation through improvement science and adult learning systems.

* Reflect and Analyze Year 1 Progress:
Identify lessons learned, bright spots, and hurdles from working with the NY Inspires Playbook and rollout of the NYS Portrait of a Graduate.

* Strengthen Systems for the Year Ahead:
Define priorities for advancing the Portrait of a Graduate across classrooms and districts. Use insights to identify the systems, supports, and leadership routines needed to sustain deeper learning practices and support implementation of the NY State Portrait of a Graduate.

This three-hour session includes dedicated time for design and planning with your team. Participants should bring a device for use during the session. Lunch will be provided.

This training is for administrators who have not been previously trained. The training will include all of the state-prescribed components. The goal is to provide training that emphasizes growth producing feedback The training will include all of the state-prescribed components.

Training for new Administrators and any Administrator who needs the APPR Lead Evaluator certification training. The training will cover SED Updates, Guidance, Review the Lead Evaluator Role for the Entire Year, Inter-Rater Reliability, Tough Conversations with Employees, and Goal Setting for APPR.

Training for new Ulster County district DASA Coordinators. This training will provide quarterly updates and learning for the DASA coordinators across Ulster County. We will share any changes or updates from NYSED relating to DASA as well as opportunities to discuss current protocols, share strategies, and network across schools and teams.

Mandated meeting for Council members of the Ulster BOCES School Library System. The School Library System Council meets to recommend policy, do long-range and short-range planning, and evaluate the System's services.

Looking to boost engagement and critical thinking in student writers? Shared writing is a powerful tool to help students embrace their identity as writers and a scaffold to independence across narrative, informational, and argument genres. It is adaptable for whole-class, small-group, or one-on-one instruction.

In this workshop, we will examine successful shared writing pieces and explore strategies tailored for different genres. We'll dive into how shared writing supports multilingual learners, collaborate to get feedback on our own lesson plans, and wrap up by reflecting on and celebrating successes from our own classrooms.

This session is part of a hybrid learning experience that combines synchronous, in-person sessions with asynchronous coursework in Canvas. Participants will engage in hands-on, collaborative learning during live sessions and complete independent activities between sessions on their own time.

Minimum Enrollment:
Courses require at least 10 participants. A decision about cancellation will be made one week in advance, and registrants will be notified.

Asynchronous Courses: Flexible, self-paced with 24/7 access. No live sessions; interact with instructors and peers via discussion boards and email. All work must be finished by deadlines to earn credit.
