The Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages (OBEWL) of the New York State Education Department presents:

Enacting the New York State Culture Standards

NYSED OBEWL is sponsoring a two-day, in-person workshop series in nine regions across New York State to support NYS world language educators in understanding and implementing the NYS Culture Standards.

Each workshop will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch on your own.

Participants must commit to attending both days in full. Eight (8) hours of CTLE credit are offered.

Day 1: Enacting NYS Culture Standards (Part 1)
Focus on the connection between intercultural competence and language proficiency in developing culturally responsive students. Participants will use authentic resources (images, artifacts, texts) to explore interpretation and cultural context. After reviewing Culture Standards 4-5 and rubrics, they will design an interpretive instructional sequence aligned to these standards.

Day 2: Enacting NYS Culture Standards (Part 2)
Builds on Day 1 by focusing on interpersonal and presentational communication. Participants will learn strategies to prompt student output using Culture Standards 4-5 and integrate these tasks into the interpretive sequence. They will then design aligned interpersonal and presentational performance tasks using the same standards and rubrics.

As New York BOCES and district teams move through the NY Inspires process, this session-offered as a DLNY pre-conference-provides structured time to reflect, recalibrate, and plan for the next year of the NY Inspires framework.

The purpose of this session is to bring together a diverse group of voices from across our system, including representatives from BOCES, members of NYSED, the Big 5, student voice partners, and other thought leaders, to help shape the three NY Inspires Transformation Days that will be established by NYSED for the coming school year.

Our goal is to leverage several key pieces of work already underway, including:

* The recommendations and priorities codified by the DS Group and SCDN
* The final slide from the June 15 Board of Regents presentation outlining potential areas for district focus
* The expertise, experiences, and perspectives represented in the room

By the end of the session, we will have a blueprint for the three days that determines the structure, codifies common language and experiences, and leaves flexibility to respond to regional needs and context.

This series supports co-teaching teams in strengthening and implementing effective Integrated ENL Co-Teaching practices across content-area classrooms. Grounded in the NYS Co-Teaching Topic Briefs and the work of Maria Dove and Andrea Honigsfeld, including their text, Co-Teaching for English Learners: A Guide to Collaborative Planning, Instruction, Assessment, and Reflection, the series provides opportunities for new and returning participants to examine current practices, collaborate, and apply their learning.

Session 1 will define the purpose and principles of Integrated ENL Co-Teaching and examine partnership roles, structures, and practices.

Session 2 will explore collaborative planning routines, language and content objectives, high-impact instructional strategies, and scaffolds.

Session 3 will focus on implementing and refining co-teaching practices through the purposeful use of co-teaching models, assessments and accommodations, and AI tools that support planning and instruction for multilingual learners.

ENL teachers are strongly encouraged to attend with a co-teacher to strengthen their collaboration and plan upcoming lessons and units. Dually certified ENL and content-area teachers are also encouraged to register.

What do the Numeracy Briefs say about teaching mathematics?

In this asynchronous course, teachers will explore key ideas from NYSED's Numeracy Briefs, reflect on the implications for their instructional practices, and discuss questions, challenges, and problems of practice related to each brief. As a final assignment, participants will submit a teaching artifact demonstrating how they will implement their new learning and the recommendations presented in the briefs.

This full-day convening launches Playbook 2, the next phase of our collective work to reimagine New York's graduation requirements around the New York State Portrait of a Graduate.

Building on the vision, learning, and feedback from Year 1, teams will move from planning to action, developing next steps across all four transformation areas. This includes exploring new approaches to credits and learning experiences and the transition toward one New York State high school diploma.

Teams will also examine their current assessment practices and consider how assessment may need to evolve as this work moves forward.

Each district or BOCES is encouraged to bring a team of six. All attendees must register individually.

This convening is the first of three Statewide Convenings taking place during the 2026-27 school year. Additional convenings will be held on February 10 and May 10, 2027. Each convening requires separate registration.

Gemini's AI features are now available across Google Workspace. This 90-minute session provides a comprehensive introduction to the full toolkit. We'll review and demonstrate the new AI-powered tools within Google Classroom for tasks such as generating assignment ideas and creating rubrics.

Mandated meeting for Communication Coordinator members of the Ulster BOCES School Library System.

The purpose of the Physical Therapy Roundtable is to build a Professional Learning Network (PLN) to promote collaboration and learning opportunities amongst PT's and PTA's across the county school districts and educational settings. The group will share and review continuing education courses, share professional resources, and discuss best PT practices in the educational setting.

DLNY is expanding into a year-round virtual experience designed to deepen leadership practice across the 2026-2027 school year. This three-part online series builds intentionally from Future → Systems → People, offering leaders a coherent arc of learning and reflection.

Fall Session: October 20, 2026
We will explore innovation and leadership by examining what deeper learning looks like in action, highlighting "thinkering” showcases, and reimagining schedules and learning experiences to increase student agency and relevance.

Winter Session: February 2, 2027
The focus shifts to systems, including leading across the P-12 continuum, strengthening instructional leadership, supporting principals and coaches, aligning cabinets, and communicating change effectively to communities.

Spring Session: April 27, 2027
We center on people through human-centered leadership, addressing belonging, wellbeing, burnout, student mental health, culture, and sustainable approaches to managing initiative overload.

Each session is designed to be practical, strategic, and immediately applicable for district and school leaders. Participants will engage with forward-thinking ideas while also examining the structures and conditions necessary for lasting impact.

Held annually, Fall Into Books brings together school and public librarians from eight counties across the Hudson Valley for a day of literacy, discussion, networking, and insight. This collaborative event features book discussion sessions ranging from picture books to young adult literature, a morning speaker, a keynote author presentation, a book sale, and catered breakfast and lunch.

This conference provides an excellent opportunity for attendees to engage in collaborative discussions centered on children's and teen literature. Library workers and educators of all types are welcome.

TA Impact is designed to support Teacher's Aides and Classroom Assistants in developing the skills and confidence needed to effectively support students, teachers, and the overall classroom environment. For leaders and teachers continuing the NY Inspires journey, the next phase is about mastering the Equity of Evidence. It is one thing to design a great project; it is another to ensure that every student, regardless of their starting point, has a meaningful way to demonstrate what they know.

This series shifts the "burden of proof" to students while intentionally dismantling the language and learning barriers that can obscure the strengths and brilliance of Multilingual Learners (ENL) and students with disabilities. By "designing for the edges," participants will create assessment rubrics, feedback systems, and Defenses of Learning that are accessible, rigorous, and empowering.

This is where we stop sorting students and start witnessing a transformation in how they demonstrate their learning and growth through the New York Portrait of a Graduate.

Participants will explore the ChromeOS interface, including the launcher, shelf, settings, and file management, and learn to navigate essential tools and extensions that support everyday classroom tasks. Whether you are new to Chromebooks or looking to deepen your familiarity with the operating system, this hands-on introduction will help you use the device more efficiently and guide your students in doing the same.

The question is not just "when to refer?” It is "why?” Determining why a multilingual learner is struggling and whether a special education referral is warranted remains one of the most complex challenges educators face. Behaviors that may raise concerns about a disability can also reflect second-language acquisition, cultural and linguistic diversity, access to appropriate educational opportunities, or other factors that influence learning and performance.

This workshop explores a culturally and linguistically responsive approach to examining student concerns before referral, with attention to language development, instructional access, learning environments, assessment practices, intervention efforts, and legal requirements.

Participants, including members of MTSS teams, will consider how concerns identified through classroom data and student performance may warrant targeted Tier 2 supports and additional problem-solving before referral. Through case studies and collaborative discussion, educators will learn how to distinguish language differences from disabilities and make more accurate, equitable, and defensible decisions for multilingual learners.

Supporting student behavior starts with supporting the adults in the building. In this three-part series, school leaders will explore practical, sustainable strategies for responding to challenging behavior while building systems that strengthen staff confidence, reduce burnout, and improve student outcomes.

Participants will examine the principal's role in behavioral support, develop proactive building-wide practices, learn effective crisis response strategies, and strengthen post-incident teacher support. This series is designed to help administrators lead with greater clarity, consistency, and confidence when behavior escalates.

The NY Inspires Virtual Learning Network offers BOCES and Big 5 administrators and leaders a dedicated professional learning network (PLN) to stay connected between Statewide Convenings. These virtual sessions provide a space to discuss how NY Inspires is unfolding across the state, troubleshoot implementation within participants' own settings, and share ideas for supporting districts as they move through the Four Transformations.

Rather than serving as a one-time event, the Virtual Learning Network provides an ongoing thread of connection throughout the year and an opportunity to learn alongside peers engaged in the same work.

Sessions will be held via Zoom from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on November 13, 2026; March 17, 2027; and May 21, 2027. A fourth session will be scheduled for summer 2027. The Portrait of a Graduate is more than a framework. It is a powerful opportunity to uncover and tell the story of your students as individuals, as members of cohorts, and as part of something much larger. This four-part, full-day series invites educators and leaders to explore how data storytelling can illuminate journeys of learning, identity, and growth across a P-12 system.

Together, we will move beyond static data points to build rich, meaningful narratives that reflect the full complexity of student experience, grounded in the seven elements of the NYSED Portrait of a Graduate. Participants will learn to surface and interpret qualitative and quantitative data, map individual student stories, analyze cohort trends, and connect those insights to school, district, regional, and global contexts.

English Language Learners (ELLs) with disabilities are entitled to the protections, programs, and services required under New York State Commissioner's Regulations Parts 154 and 200. This workshop examines how these regulations intersect in the areas of ELL identification, special education evaluation, IEP development, and service delivery. Participants will review the role of the Language Proficiency Team, the requirements and rationale for bilingual evaluations, and the responsibilities of school teams when both regulatory frameworks apply.

The session will also address the development of IEPs that reflect students' strengths, language proficiency, family and cultural considerations, instructional needs, required services, and testing accommodations. Particular attention will be given to the January 2024 Joint NYSED Memorandum and the continued provision of required bilingual education and English as a New Language (ENL) services for ELLs with disabilities. MTSS and pre-referral considerations will be addressed only as they relate to regulatory responsibilities, referral procedures, and documentation.

On February 10, 2027, BOCES and district leaders from Ulster, Dutchess, Sullivan, Rockland and Orange counties will gather for the Statewide Convening of the second year of the NY Inspires Transformation Coalition. This full-day session launches Playbook 2, the next phase of our region's work to reimagine graduation requirements around the New York State Portrait of a Graduate.

Building on the vision and feedback gathered in Year 1, teams will move from planning to action by drafting next steps across all four transformation areas, including redefining credits and learning experiences and moving toward one New York State high school diploma.

Attendees will also review their school or district's current assessment practices as they plan for the work ahead. Each district or BOCES is encouraged to bring a team of six, and each attendee must register individually.

This is the second of three Statewide Convenings scheduled this year. An additional session will be held on May 10, 2027, and will require a separate registration.

On May 10, 2027, BOCES and district leaders from Ulster, Dutchess, Sullivan, Rockland and Orange counties will gather for the Statewide Convening of the second year of the NY Inspires Transformation Coalition. This full-day session launches Playbook 2, the next phase of our region's work to reimagine graduation requirements around the New York State Portrait of a Graduate.

Building on the vision and feedback gathered in Year 1, teams will move from planning to action by drafting next steps across all four transformation areas, including redefining credits and learning experiences and moving toward one New York State high school diploma.

Attendees will also review their school or district's current assessment practices as they plan for the work ahead. Each district or BOCES is encouraged to bring a team of six, and each attendee must register individually.

This workshop will provide an overview of New York State regulations related to the English Language Learner identification process. Participants will unpack the ELL Identification Flowchart, Home Language Questionnaire, and Individual Interview process. They will also learn when and how to convene a Language Proficiency Team and how to screen students who may be Students with Inconsistent/Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE).

Participants will review:

* ELL identification regulations
* Completion and processing of the Home Language Questionnaire (HLQ)
* The role of the Language Proficiency Team (LPT) when potential ELLs with an existing IEP or 504 Plan are enrolling
* Screening for potential Students with Inconsistent/Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE)
* Parent orientation and student placement procedures
* How and when to initiate an ELL Identification Review
