13. SLS Council, Coordinators Meeting & PD

Program: School Library System

Dates: 5/29/2026

The main function of the communication coordinators (individually and as a group) is to provide two-way communication between the member libraries and the school library system. The communication coordinator meetings will share information on system programs, procedures, data collection, and provide professional development. They will also bring the needs of school library system users (students, faculty and administrators) to the attention of the school library system council and director. The School Library System Council will work with the director to recommend policy; do long-range and short-range planning, including overseeing the development of the system's Plan of Service; approve the annual system budget and the system's annual report; and evaluate the system's services. In the morning there will be professional development. The Communication Coordinators meeting and council meeting will be held from 12:30-3:00. These meetings are open to all library staff. If you are a Communication Coordinator or Council member and you cannot attend a scheduled Communication Coordinators/council meeting, you are encouraged to send another LMS from your district in your absence.

15. University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) Implementation Training

Program: Professional Development/Instructional Support Services (CSIPD)2

Audience: Classroom Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Reading Specialists, etc.

Dates: 8/18/2026 to 8/19/2026

Please join us as we welcome the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) for two days of professional learning focused on implementing UFLI Foundations.

This program is a highly regarded, explicit, and systematic phonics program designed to build the foundational skills necessary for proficient reading. Grounded in a carefully sequenced scope and sequence, the program ensures that students develop each skill in a logical progression while applying their learning with increasing automaticity and confidence.

This two-day workshop includes…

-Introduction and overview of the UFLI Foundations program

-Background knowledge about the science of reading

-An overview of the manual and materials needed for UFLI implementation

-An in-depth exploration of each lesson step and time for practice

-Guidance on implementing sound walls

-Recommendations for progress monitoring and differentiation

16. Project Based Learning 101 through PBL Works

Program: Professional Development/Instructional Support Services (CSIPD)2

Dates: 9/29/2026 to 10/1/2026

PBL 101 models the Project Based Learning process and how teachers might facilitate PBL in their classroom. Participants will learn to set norms, facilitate inquiry, and foster collaborative conversations. Each participant will leave with a project ready to be implemented in their classroom and the teaching practices to facilitate high-quality PBL. Participants should plan to attend for all three days of learning.

Day 1: Setting a Vision for PBL. During this first day, participants establish a vision for PBL in their classrooms and develop a foundation for their project that is authentic and strongly aligned with learning goals. Deliverable: Project Idea Preview, Draft Vision for PBL

Day 2: Developing Your Project. Participants "begin with the end in mind” to define the products and assessment criteria that will focus student learning throughout the project. They learn how to ensure appropriate cognitive demand for all students through inquiry-driven instructional activities and thoughtful scaffolding. Deliverables: Project Path Overview, Learning Experiences

Day 3: Bringing PBL to Life. Participants create purposeful plans for formative assessment throughout their projects and refine them through a peer feedback protocol. With clear project plans, they learn how to ensure equitable access and success for all learners through skillful project management and facilitation. The cost is $450 per participant.
