3. Child Abuse Identification & Reporting (Certification Only)

Child Abuse Identification & Reporting

Mandated reporters can participate in this web-based online training course at any time, 24/7. Users must complete the course within the course duration which is the current school calendar year (2025-2026). Users learn definitions, indicators, and how to make a report to the New York Statewide Central Register. This course meets the New York State Education Department mandatory requirements for Training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting. In accordance with Chapter 363 of the Laws of 2018, the Board of Regents adopted amendments to certain sections of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education related to Reports of Child Abuse in an Educational Setting.

Included Updates:
Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2021 amended Social Services Law § 413 to require additional training to include protocols to reduce implicit bias in decision-making processes, strategies for identifying adverse childhood experiences, and guidelines to assist in recognizing signs of abuse or maltreatment while interacting virtually.
Chapter 25 of the Laws of 2024 amended Social Services Law § 413 to require additional training to include protocols and guidance on identifying abused or maltreated children with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

The required training consists of a 3-hour asynchronous online training with accompanying assignments.

4. DASA: Harassment, Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention Certification Training

DASA: New York State's Dignity for All Student's Act (Dignity Act) seeks to provide NYS public elementary and secondary school students with a safe, supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function. The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is a NYSED approved provider of the Dignity Act certification training.



The required training consists of a 6-hour asynchronous online training with accompanying assignments.

5. SAVE: School Violence Prevention & Intervention Certification Course

Anyone applying for school certification after February 2, 2001 must complete 2 hours of training on school violence prevention and intervention. This workshop includes training in effective classroom management techniques, identifying the warning signs of violent and other troubling behavior, and intervention techniques for resolving violent incidents in the school. This training is intended for anyone working with children and in a school setting.

Topics Covered:

  1. The warning signs within a developmental and social context that relate to violence and other troubling behaviors in children;
  2. The statutes, regulations and policies relating to a safe nonviolent school climate.
  3. Effective classroom management techniques and other academic supports that promote a nonviolent school climate and enhance learning; character education, citizenship and civility.
  4. The integration of social and problem-solving skill development for students within the regular curriculum
  5. Intervention techniques designed to address a school violence situation;
  6. How to participate in an effective school/community referral process for students exhibiting violent behavior.
  7. Defining, identifying, intervening and ending bullying in all its forms, including cyberbullying.

The required training consists of a 2-hour asynchronous online training with accompanying assignments.

6. The Needs of Students with Autism Training

The Needs of Students with Autism

In response to the growing number of children being diagnosed with autism, the Legislature amended Sections 3004(4) and (5) of the Education Law to require all persons applying for a teaching certificate or license on or after September 2, 2009, as a special education teacher or as a school administrator who works in special education, to complete coursework or training in the needs of children with autism. This workshop will fulfill the NYSED requirement for Classroom Teaching Certification in all areas of Education. Participants of this course will learn about the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well as behavior supports and best instructional practices for supporting individuals with ASD. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will complete a certification of completion application that they can submit to the NYS Education Department along with other relevant forms when they apply for certification.

Explore the NYSED Numeracy Briefs with a Leadership Community

Join school and district leaders from across the region for a virtual professional learning series focused on the New York State Numeracy Briefs. These sessions are designed to help you:
* Learn systematic ways to cultivate conditions and supports that foster adult learning and collaboration.
* Deepen your understanding of how to lead and support effective Tier 1 Numeracy Instructional Best Practices at all levels for all students.
* Connect with administrators and teacher leaders who share similar goals and vision for mathematics instruction.
* Explore how evidence from the briefs can guide decisions around professional development, curriculum, instruction, intervention, and assessment.

Each session will provide structured time to unpack key ideas from the briefs, exchange insights, and reflect on how these concepts fit your local context leaving you with both clarity and a stronger network of colleagues.

10. SLS Council Meeting

Program: School Library System

Dates: 10/14/2025 to 5/19/2026

The SLS Council meetings are designed to be a bridge between the School Library System team and the school librarians in each of the districts and non-public schools that are members of the system. Each district has a designated Council member who is required to attend the meetings but all members are welcome to attend. The morning will be the meeting and the afternoon will be a professional learning opportunity.

11. Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Curriculum and Staff Development Council

Program: Professional Development Unit

Audience: Administrators

Dates: 10/20/2025 to 5/18/2026

CSDC is a working group dedicated to developing the capacity of teachers and leaders in the CO BOCES region. Meetings include NYSED updates, collegial sharing, and collaborative discussions about curriculum, instruction and assessment topics. Members of the group are tasked with:
* Participating in discussions around current teaching and learning practices
* Serving as a liaison between their districts and BOCES regarding professional learning needs
* Sharing information about curriculum, instruction, and assessment with their leadership teams and teachers.

12. LETRS 3e by Lexia for Units 1-4 (First Year)

Lexia LETRS professional learning for elementary educators is an investment in teachers' literacy knowledge and professional practice. Teachers gain essential knowledge to master the fundamentals of literacy instruction required to transform student learning. Developed by Dr. Louisa Moats and leaders in the field of literacy, LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the foundational and fundamentals of reading and writing instruction-phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language.

LETRS has 8 Units with 6-8 sessions per unit. What the educator "will learn” is identified at the start of each session and is listed below.

Learning Goals:

First year: LETRS Volume I (Units 1-4)

Focuses on the Word Recognition strands of Scarborough's Rope model through units centered on:

* Phonology

* Basic and advanced phonics

* Screening

* Educational and diagnostic assessment

Second year: LETRS Volume II (Units 5-8) **To occur next year.**

Focuses on the Language Comprehension strands of Scarborough's Rope model through units centered on:

* Vocabulary

* Language and reading

* Comprehension

* Writing

**Cost includes first year, units 1-4, only. Cost is based on 20 participants. Price will be adjusted according to actual enrollment. District is responsible to pay for enrollment regardless of attendance.**

Asynchronous BUZZ course for TAs and Aides who have taken the level 1 TCIS certification Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) is a trauma-informed crisis prevention and management system. The TCIS system helps staff create a learning environment that decreases risk factors while increasing protective factors so both students and staff can feel safe. TCIS provides staff an understanding of trauma sensitive practices and skills (co-regulation) to help students learn how to regulate and manage their own emotions. These newly learned skills encourage a greater willingness and capacity for our students to learn.TCIS helps participants and schools to:
◉ Create a trauma-sensitive environment where students and adults are safe and feel safe within their roles as a staff member
◉ Pro-actively prevent and/or deescalate potential crisis situations with the students they work with
◉ Manage a crisis situation in a therapeutic manner, and, if necessary, intervene physically in a manner that reduces the risk of harm to students and staff
◉ Process the crisis event with students and each other to help improve their coping strategies to reduce future risk

14. Supporting Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder Collaborative Community

16. NYSED Statewide Conference: Performance-Based Learning and Assessment in Middle & High School

This event, which will be a hybrid webinar with in-person discussion and presentations, will provide New York State administrators and school leaders with an opportunity to engage in regional discussions about approaches to performances-based learning and assessment (PBLA) that support local implementation of NY Inspires and NY's Educational Assessment Strategy in middle and high school.

Please note that to attend this event, you must attend in person at BOCES.

17. Individual Arts Assessment Pathway (IAAP) Consortium

Program: Professional Development Unit

Audience: Middle & High School Teachers of the Arts (art, music, dance, and theater)

Dates: 5/20/2026

The Individual Arts Assessment Pathway (IAAP) is a plus one pathway to graduation that highlights students with strengths in the arts. A major component to the IAAP is a portfolio of student work and reflection. This portfolio must contain all mandatory elements from the IAAP implementation guides. This consortium will use the implementation guides and student workbooks to develop a plan for implementing the IAAP requirements. Teachers will be given time to collaborate with other teachers from around the region, so they use their collective understanding and backgrounds to implement the IAAP within their district.

Please note that teachers that are attending should be in the implementation phase and their districts should be approved to offer the IAAP to students. The work being done will be a collaborative effort to work through the challenges of implementation.

18. Early Learning Collaborative Community: UPK Session 3

19. CARE Network- Elementary and Middle School Session 4

The Regional CARE (Collaborative Action for Resilient Education) Network is a new collaborative opportunity designed specifically for student service providers (counselors, social workers, psychologists, mental health providers) to come together to discuss their roles, study best practices, and share and borrow ideas. Participants will network with regional colleagues, obtain updates from NYSED, and dive deeper into Tier 2 and 3 supports and resources. This session will be facilitated by the Behavior Excellence Coaches from the Instructional Support Services Department. There will be 4 meetings across the school year with extended learning opportunities. There will be professional presentations provided in the areas of Trauma, SEL, Restorative Practices, and Mental Health.

20. Day 1 - NY Inspires Summer Institute: From Standards to Clarity: Prioritizing Learning for Impact

Program: Professional Development Unit

Audience: PK-12 Educators

Develop a deep understanding of priority standards and the skills embedded within them to drive instructional clarity and coherence. Educators will unpack standards to identify the key skills and concepts and use that understanding to establish a skills continuum, develop clear learning targets, make informed instructional decisions, design aligned formative and summative assessments, and identify authentic demonstrations of learning. Participants will work with their own grade level or content-area standards and a unit from their current curriculum to apply this process in a meaningful and relevant way. Participants will make connections to the NYS Portrait of a Graduate, ensuring that instruction builds toward future-ready competencies. Throughout the day, educators will leverage AI as a tool to deepen analysis, support instructional decision-making, and strengthen alignment across the learning process.

Embedded throughout, educators will use AI to enhance inquiry, creativity, and formative assessment. Participants will register for elementary or secondary sessions to explore developmentally appropriate strategies and structures.
