HVWP Saturday Seminar: ADVOCATES AND ALLIES: Supporting English Language Learners Inside and Outside the Classroom

The Hudson Valley Writing Project (HVWP), in collaboration with the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center, offers this free Saturday Seminar to teachers who work with students of all ages—from preschool to college—in all subject areas. The seminar will open with a discussion panel with educators who work in the field on behalf of English language learners. Panelists Laura Garcia (YWCA Orange County), Mary Sherman (Mid-Hudson Migrant Education Program), and David Mumper (Hudson Valley Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network) will discuss the purposes of their work, the communities they serve, and the strategies and resources they use as advocates. HVWP Director Tom Meyer will moderate the conversation. The panel will be followed by four breakout workshops in which preschool-grade 12 teachers share literacy teaching practices that support ENL students and their peers.

Registration begins at 8:30 am. Conference is from 9am-12pm.
